The Opportunity
Sharing The Journey International was founded by Dr. David Cunning and physician assistant Jacqueline Cunning. After serving together in the medical mission field for more than 20 years, the Cunnings formed STJI in 2010 as a way to create permanent, positive changes in vulnerable communities.
STJI is located in the Alta Verapaz Department of Guatemala, located in the north central region of the country. The indigienous communities in this area have a higher likelihood of cleft palates compared with the global average. STJI provides cleft lip and cleft palate repairs, dental care, water purification treatment, nutritional support, and counseling as well as discipleship for the families of this region. STJI offers a comprehensive approach to healing that includes health, education, community support, and faith in order to affect a permanent change for a better way of life. In order to undertake this massive effort, STJI desperately needed medical equipment and supplies.
Our Solution
Dr. David and Jacqueline Cunning first reached out to Avante Global Outreach in 2011 to inquire about specific pieces of operating room equipment needed for STJI to achieve its objectives.
Avante Health Solutions worked alongside the Cunnings to seek out the best medical equipment to perform in challenging conditions. STJI offers care in remote locations, where there is often contaminated water and limited resources, and their equipment needed to be durable enough to keep up. Avante Global Outreach provided STJI with a variety of reliable, affordable medical equipment, including anesthesia machines, vaporizers, electrosurgical units, and other medical accessories.
